                        "Pickin' Up Steam"  7:30 - 9:00 PM

Pickin’ Up Steam is a contemporary acoustic quartet, which utilizes the traditional bluegrass instrumentation of guitar, mandolin, banjo, string bass (and occasionally, fiddle). Each artist brings to the group a wide variety of influences, including rock, jazz, Latin, folk, country and traditional bluegrass.

Every member of this ensemble possesses strong improvisational skills, keeping every performance fresh and taking the music to new heights. The group also places great emphasis on the vocal aspect of its performance singing in well-blended three-part harmony. They bring traditional bluegrass into the 21st Century, with their unique arrangements of bluegrass standards, original compositions with thoughtful lyrics and exciting, complex instrumentals. This is all beautifully displayed on their recent CD “Waltz for Mom”, which was released in July, 2008.

Working with platinum and Grammy-winning guitarist/producer Kevin Bowe (Paul Westerberg, Etta James, Jonny Lang), drummer Peter Anderson (Polara, Honeydogs) and bassist Steve Price (Rex Daisy) the band has been performing sold out shows at Mpls venues like the Dakota, Fine Line and Varsity Theater along with several exclusive benefits and corporate functions. Her new CD was listed as one of the year's top 10 by the St. Paul Pioneer Press. The word is out...

                       "Davina and the Vagabonds"
7:30 to 9:00 PM
Davina Sowers hit the Midwest scene in February 2005 and she hasn't looked back since. It didn't take her long after moving here from Key West, FL to start making a name for herself. With great vocals and piano, she commands attention onstage and leaves everyone smiling. Davina has been performing since the age of 5, with the support of an extremely musically involved family. Sowers is a classically trained pianist with years of experience in piano performance. Sowers made a big splash at Duluth's Bayfront Blues Festival in 2006 and 2007, having the highest sales in CDs in both years. She has been called the "hardest-working blueswoman in frigid Minnesota”. “Two things remain consistent at all her shows though: her throaty but cushiony voice, which has a sort of hard-mattress comfort to it that's part Bonnie Raitt, part Etta James and a little Amy Winehouse; and her band's rollicking New Orleans flavor, driven home by dueling horn players and a bayou-thick standup bass." (CHRIS RIEMENSCHNEIDER, Star Tribune)

                                   "Peter Mayer"
Please note time change - 7:00 to 8:30 PM

Peter Mayer writes songs for a small planet—songs about interconnectedness and the human journey; about the beauty and the mystery of the world. Whimsical, humorous, and profound, his music breaks the boundaries of "folk", and transcends to a realm beyond the everyday love song, to a place of wonder at the very fact of life itself.

Peter began playing the guitar and writing songs when he was in high school. He studied Theology and music in college, and then spent two years in seminary. After deciding that the priesthood wasn't for him, he took a part-time job as a church music director for 8 years, while performing at clubs and colleges, and writing and recording his music. In 1995, he quit his job and started touring full-time. Since then, Peter has gradually gained a dedicated, word-of-mouth following, selling out shows from Minnesota to Texas, New England to California. He has eight CDs to his credit, and has sold over 50,000 of them independently.
